Welcome from Your Expert

Dear Fellow Travelers,

Our trip to Rome is fast approaching, and I wanted to reach out to say hello!

I am a classical archaeologist, which means, of course, that I “dig” ancient Greece and Rome! I was trained in the United States (the University of Chicago for my BA and MA, and Brown University for my PhD), and spent much time working in museums and excavating in Pompeii, before moving permanently to Rome! I now live in the Eternal City, and teach all aspects of ancient Rome to American undergraduates who are studying in Italy. It’s fun work that allows me to visit my favorite ancient monuments, sites, and museums regularly, but the best part is that I am able to take students to these amazing places and see their faces light up. I can’t wait to do that with you!

The “Ancient Civilization, History, and Mythology program in Greece & Italy” tour includes my absolute favorite sites in and around Rome, and I’m really looking forward to experiencing them with you. It is a trip that captivates, as it takes us on a journey to the sites of epic and legendary stories. Who wouldn’t want to walk in the footsteps of historical figures such as Cicero, Julius Caesar and Mark Antony, imagine the crowds from the inside of the arena of the Colosseum, or visit the palatial estates of the Roman emperors in Rome and Tivoli? Myth, legend and history will be our constant companions on this incredible voyage.

Along with these incredibly captivating sites, we will, of course, eat very well and eat a lot of gelato – this is Italy, after all! In fact, one of most important exercises while in Rome, I think, is determining which gelato shop and flavor are the best!

I’m going to meet you at your hotel, once you arrive in Rome. As we travel, I will talk with you about my own research and work in Rome, and I look forward to adding insights to our visits, as well as the occasional humorous anecdote. I am so honored and thrilled to be the one to accompany you on this journey, as we will experience together the legacy of Rome.

I’m looking forward to meeting each and every one of you. See you in a few days!

Safe travels and…a presto!
